"ASK"

Assessing Student Knowledge

Purpose     SEE IMPORTANT LINKS BELOW

To provide a process that allows both student and teacher to determine the level of learning achieved as it relates to the core content by grade level.

Implementation Process

Following is a listing of activities needed to implement ASK:

  • Develop a checklist of desired outcomes focused on student achievement based on the Core Content and the Program of Studies.
  • Develop questions related to the sub-categories (strands) of the Core Content.
  • Create assessments that include multiple strand core content questions that contain both review and preview questions.
  • Set up a schedule that allows regular assessment (weekly if applicable).
  • Review each question with class after grading (mini lessions of review/future expectations).
  • Create individual and class graphs that plot progress after each quiz.

Benefits

Following are some of the benefits of implementing ASK:

  • Teachers and students know what the standard/expectation is for each subject for the year.
  • Teachers and students always know where they are in relation to the standard as well as the rest of the class.
  • The process allows a teacher and students to assess at any given time throughout the year with ample time for the teacher to make adjustments or improvements in student progress.
  • Provides an excellent measure or evaluation at any time during the year to a principal or parent.
  • Allows students to practice graphing with a practical application.
  • Data available immediately to allow reaction to needs of both student and teacher.
