Developing a Open Response Checklist for questions

Developing proper Rubrics

Levels of Student Thinking desired in an assignment or questions.

This workshop takes participants step-by-step through the process of understanding, writing and analyzing open response questions. Participants will evaluate the quality of a question, gather strategies for teaching students, learn how to utilize rubrics, and get a question written that they can use. Participants will become familiar with the kinds and parts of open response questions and learn how to select the most appropriate process verbs for the task at hand. This session emphasizes the notion of writing the assessment first (via writing units of study), so that one can intentionally provide students with the opportunity to apply what they have learned to a new situation. A variety of strategies for student success when answering questions are also presented. The presenter is a curriculum coach with experience in middle and high school in all content areas -as well as working with many, many elementary schools over the last 4 years who has presented this session for schools and districts all over the state, at all grade levels and content areas.
